Objective

To support Uganda in strengthening its maritime sector by reviewing and harmonizing existing legislation, proposing the establishment of a Maritime Administration, and drafting a new Maritime Bill and related regulations.

Results

Based on a comprehensive review of Uganda’s maritime legislation and administration, identifying gaps and proposing institutional reforms and capacity-building measures, drafts of Inland Water Transport (Maritime) Bill and Regulations have been delivered which comply with the international treaties signed by littoral states of Victoria Lake (Kenya, Tanzania, and Malawi). Recommendations for establishing a suitable Maritime Administration structure for Uganda were delivered. The Inland water Transport Bill was adopted by the Parliament of Uganda.
