
The aim of this Project was to improve the competitiveness of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and to improve their management capacity through development of a set of specific short-term and long-term recommendations aimed at increasing the contribution of SMEs to GDP to 50% by 2050.
A national baseline survey of SMES in 10 sectors of the economy (Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles; Agriculture, forestry and fishing; Construction; Manufacturing sector; Transport and storage; Administrative and support service activities; Professional, scientific and technical activities; Accommodation and food services; Education; Information and communication) of Kazakhstan. A sample of 1535 survey subjects, distributed in 31 different strata, have been subject to the national survey. International team has trained the local enumerators either before survey or during the survey (on the job training). The survey was developed on a IT-platform supported by the operation of a Survey Support System (SSS), consisted of applications dynamically interconnected.
The Concept for the development of the SMEs in Kazakhstan to increase the share of SMEs in GDP to 50% by 2050 was delivered which was intensively discussed with the stakeholders Atameken, DAMU, QazIndustry and Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
